Most scrubs who played Baldur's Gate are new to RPGs, and also younger which the gaming core audience tends to be, so it makes sense they missed the early isometric games.There is a core RPGaming audience who also played Baldur's Gate 3, but its popularity has expanded far beyond the normal RPG crowd. It's sort of like how Fallout 3 introduced (a highly diluted version of) that world to a new generation who didn't necessarily play the first two. It still grabbed people's attention though, in the same way Baldur's Gate 3 did. A similar, but to a much lesser extent, popularity slant occurred with The Witcher 3, which reached so many people, a great deal of them had never played the first two games even though their release separation was much closer.It's been so long since the early Baldur's Gate games they are sort of outmoded and outdated at this point. We have more-current analogs like Pillars of Eternity, but even these have highly polished systems by comparison. I enjoy the early iso-RPGs very much myself, but I totally get why a lot of folks won't want to go that far back or play such older games.If you like action games with some stat progression, that's kind of different. ... At the very least, I can certainly tell you what he's not working on: a game called Untitled Paper RPG.As described by adamgryu, Untitled Paper RPG is an "untitled RPG inspired by the classic Paper Mario games.
